Gilian Ensures 100% Web site Availability,
Application Protection In Enhancements to
G-Server Intrusion Protection Appliance

REDWOOD CITY, CA, August 8, 2003 -- Gilian Technologies Inc. (www.Gilian.com) today announced enhancements that extend the company’s inbound and outbound web application security solution, reinforcing both the G-Server’s EntryControl and patent-pending ExitControl technology. In addition to these advances, the G-Server now provides 100% web server availability, even during incidents of sabotage or server downtime.

The new layer of web application security increases the G-Server’s leadership in the growing market for multiple-function port 80 and port 443 protection appliances. The enhanced application protection technology of the G-Server, which includes real-time HTTP request and parameter filtering, makes the G-Server an even more powerful appliance than other approaches, since the applications are being secured on both the inbound and the outbound directions.

“ Customers have told us that protecting web applications requires a holistic, multi-layered approach, and we are delivering precisely that,” said Gilian CEO Dr. Avi Margalith. “The G-Server protects both web applications and web content in a single appliance, one that has an unparalleled 100% success record.”

Through a browser, a hacker can use the smallest bug, vulnerability, or backdoor to alter, corrupt and damage the intent of the application. The G-Server’s enhanced capabilities enable it to detect a broad range of common vulnerabilities, both known and unknown. By inspecting all incoming requests through port 80 and 443, even if a malicious attack (SQL injection, buffer overflow, cross-site scripting, path traversal, etc.) passes the firewall and the IDS, the G-Server will identify the malformed request and block it before it reaches the web server.

The G-Server’s added alert-only mode provides an inline application-level intrusion detection capability that can be switched on and off according to the customer’s needs. In alert-only mode, the G-Server allows an illegal or bogus request through, and will continue sending valid replies, simultaneously alerting the administrator of the attempted application misuse.

The G-Server’s enhanced technology provides real-time application-level protection, reduces false positives to a minimum, and makes the G-Server an ideal, non-intrusive solution that secures critical dynamic applications.

Web Server Availability

When a web server stops responding, for whatever reason, the G-Server takes over and substitutes itself, answering requests and serving authentic content that it takes from the recovery database. The customer/web site visitor never knows that the web server is down.

This feature provides availability of the web site not only when the web server is sabotaged, but also when it is down for other reasons, ensuring 100% web server availability in all possible hardware or software incidents.

The enhancements render Gilian’s G-Server to be the strongest approach available to minimize that risk/vulnerability.

The G-Server has been certified for integration with leading network and security management solutions such as, Checkpoint FW-1 through OPSEC certification, eEye’s Retina Network Security Scanner, RadWare, ISS, Tivoli, F5, BMC Patrol and others.

Pricing for the G-Server starts at $24,900 and varies according to configuration options and performance requirements. The product is available immediately through Gilian and its direct channel partners.
