REDWOOD CITY, Calif., November 6, 2001 – Gilian Technologies Inc., the leading provider of ExitControl™ solutions for Web security and availability, today announced that Intel Capital has invested in the company. The Intel Capital investment is an addition to the Company's Series B financing, from Ascend Technologies, Deutsche Bank eVentures, Evergreen Partners, Itochu Technology Inc., and Pitango Venture Capital. Gilian's G-Server, a security appliance, is used by customers in a variety of industries to keep their Web sites accurate and available regardless of the origin of a security breach. According to Gilian CEO Rafael Feitelberg, the funds will be utilized to expand the company's technology and market initiatives, with an increased focus on industry-specific sales and marketing efforts. "The investment by Intel Capital should help accelerate our penetration of industries that are dependent on both the integrity of Web content, and the consistent availability of the corporate Web site," said Feitelberg. "Customers are saving time and money while preserving their reputations by including the G-Server™ as a vital part of their security infrastructure. With this additional investment, we can further refine our solutions for growth markets." Data from a study completed by Gartner1 puts the potential market for a Web security solution of this type at $3.1 billion. The strength of this market is largely due to corporations' increasing reliance on Web site availability and content integrity, as well as to the steady increase in outsider attacks. As shown by the annual Computer Security Institute/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey report, well over half the companies surveyed reported security breaches due to Web site attacks. Gilian Technologies protects companies from the most severe consequences of Web site attacks regardless of the type of attack. The Company's G-Server™ solution ensures that false or misleading information won't be posted on a Web site, thus reducing liability exposure. It eliminates downtime by continuing to show customers the correct Web pages even after other Web site security has failed. In addition, it secures against malicious code that may be used to falsify transactions or modify Web pages. Intel Capital, Intel's strategic investment programme, focuses on making equity investments and acquisitions to grow the Internet economy, including Internet infrastructure, content and services in support of Intel's strategic interests.
