Just like the private sector, governmental agencies at all levels are taking advantage of the Internet to interact with citizens, other government departments, and employees as well as deliver better, more cost-effective services to their constituencies. For example, Federal & State governments use the Web to disseminate important regulatory information, distribute vital forms, accept contract proposals and make announcements. Their Web sites are also highly effective for posting information regarding legislation and legislative issues, distributing critical information in times of emergency, publishing crucial tax forms, and even enabling driver license extension applications. In addition, local governments use their Web sites to update the public on community affairs and provide essential services such as building permit applications, and many other services. Even educational institutions benefit from online services, delivering distance learning and the ability to schedule and register for classes. Government health organizations and VA hospitals also use the Web to exchange confidential health information for the military and the general public, even issuing online prescriptions. Unfortunately, providing ready access to information and communication makes governmental Web sites prime targets for hackers that attempt to disable systems, generate misinformation, or vandalize sites for political purposes or even just for fun. Which is why Web site content protection has become imperative for an administration that is responsible for managing huge volumes of sensitive information. Added motivation is coming from the need to comply with OMB section 515, a direct mandate that instructs all government agencies to ensure Web content integrity. Solution: Protect
