It's Only a Matter of Time
Before Your Web Site Gets Vandalized

Security issues still keep IT and network managers awake at night. However, an overlooked, yet more sinister problem lurks: Web site sabotage everything from simple profanity to corrupt pricing to terrorist demands can suddenly appear on your Web site creating financial risk exposure as well as lasting damage to your organization's reputation.

Current Strategies and Solutions Fall Short
The simple truth is that relying solely on trusted network security products still leaves your organization's Web site open to sabotage. The problem is today's network security solutions focus primarily on detecting vulnerabilities or preventing hackers from entering corporate Web servers by relying solely on methods that were not designed for Web protection in the first place: firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control mechanisms. That is, these systems do nothing to protect against Web-based threats that enter via Port 80 and 443—the two gateways for all HTTP and HTTPS Web traffic that must remain open at all times. Consequently, intruders still gain access to even the best-protected corporate Web servers, exploiting these opportunities to crash servers, corrupt transactions, and wreak havoc. However, what’s worse is these traditional security technologies cannot limit the damage if and when a hacker is successful in breaking in—a highly probable event. And they can’t protect against internal attacks—a significant source of corporate cyber-attacks.

It’s frightening when hackers break in. However, the real damage is done when your customers, prospects, investors, and partners see fraudulent information, offensive messages or corrupt pricing and transactions. Until now, the only sure way to stop hackers from entering or defacing your Web site was to take it off line—obviously not a viable option.

The Need for a New Approach: ExitControl
The best way to beat hackers at their game is to combine prevention tactics with damage control. That is, control the potential damage of a security breach by monitoring all content leaving the Web server and ensuring only authentic information is published. This approach, known as ExitControl, prevents the world from seeing the dire consequences of a hacked site. In fact, with ExitControl, visitors would not even realize a security breach ever occurred.

The Solution: Gilian G-Server®
A high performance ExitControl appliance, Gilian’s G-Server® verifies that all content exiting your Web server, as well as every functioning Web application, is authentic and unaltered. This protection, which extends even to dynamic content, automatically stops faulty information and corrupted transactions from ever reaching customers, prospects, investors, and business partners. Any altered data is seamlessly replaced with the original, authentic content. And because it works automatically and unattended at all times, the G-Server helps you control costs and reduce complexity, giving you the guarantee that your Web site will never be used against you.

As a result, even if an attacker succeeds in breaking in and modifying files, the G-Server will continue to serve the correct pages from its own, encrypted and secured copies. No downtime, no embarrassing “Site Unavailable” messages. The attack is neutralized with your reputation, liability and credibility in tact.
